Autoclave Sterilizer Time Control:

1. In general, the lower the sterilization temperature, the longer the sterilization time required by the autoclave; the higher the sterilization temperature,

the shorter the sterilization time required by the autoclave. However, the time of pressure steam sterilization should be counted from the time when the

autoclave chamber reaches the required sterilization temperature until the sterilization is completed.

2. Total autoclave time includes:

Thermal penetration time, that is, the time required from reaching the sterilization temperature in the sterilization cabinet to the time when the center

of the sterilized item also reaches the sterilization temperature. The length of time depends on the nature of the items to be sterilized, the size of the package,

the location and the degree of air evacuation in the autoclave and the type of sterilizer.

Sterilization maintenance time, that is, the time required to kill microorganisms, is generally expressed by the time required to kill Thermobacter stearothermophilus

spores. 30 minutes at 115°C, 12 minutes at 121°C, and 2 minutes at 132°C.

3. The safety time is generally half of the maintenance time, and its length depends on the disinfection items. Sterilization of thermally conductive metal equipment

does not require a safe time.
