Correct use

High-pressure steam sterilization has the advantages of fast sterilization speed, reliable effect, high temperature, and strong penetrating power.

Improper use can lead to sterilization failure. Points to note in sterilization:

1. Preliminary treatment of disinfection items. All medical equipment, sheets, clothing, etc. that have been in contact with pathogenic microorganisms

should be disinfected with chemical disinfectants, and then cleaned as usual. In particular, all kinds of items used in the infectious disease room should

be strictly controlled, and they should be thoroughly disinfected first, and then cleaned and disinfected. During routine cleaning, first soak and scrub with

detergent solution to remove oil stains, blood stains and other contaminants on the items, and then rinse with running water. Instruments and other items,

such as shaft joints, cogging and crevices, should be opened or disassembled as far as possible and thoroughly washed. The washed items should be dried

and packaged according to clinical needs to avoid recontamination. Containers and conveyance means for items before and after decontamination should

be strictly distinguished and clearly marked to prevent cross infection.

2. The packaging and containers of the disinfection items should be appropriate. The packaging is made of double-layered white cotton cloth, and the new

cloth should be washed and degreased before use. Items should be bundled with ropes, so as not to loosen and spread, it should not be too tight. When

using a container to contain, it can not only block the invasion of external microorganisms, but also have better steam penetration. Such as special syringe

sterilization boxes, storage tanks for dressings, etc. Because it is difficult for the steam to enter the civil aluminum box, and the air in the box is not easy to

discharge, the sterilization effect cannot be achieved by conventional sterilization. The test comparison shows that its pollution rate is much higher than that

of medical aluminum boxes. Therefore, civilian aluminum boxed syringes or instruments cannot be used for sterilization.

3. Disinfection items should be placed reasonably. Too much or improper placement of sterilized items can affect the sterilization effect. The items in the sterilizer

should not be overcrowded or exceed the capacity of the pot. Try to sterilize similar items in a pot. If there are different types of items placed together, the

temperature and time required for the sterilized items shall prevail. When placing items, they should be staggered across the top, bottom, left, and right, leaving

a gap so that the steam can easily penetrate. The large sterilization bag should be placed on the upper layer, and the small bag should be placed on the lower layer.

Large enamel boxes and storage tanks should also be placed on the upper layer. And prevent the condensation water generated in the sterilization of metal objects

from wetting the wrapping cloth.

4. Exhaust the air. When using a high pressure steam sterilizer, the most critical thing is to remove the air from the pot. If there is air in the pot, the pressure pointed

by the air pressure needle is not the pressure generated by saturated steam. At the same pressure, steam mixed with air will have a temperature lower than that produced by saturated steam.

5. Reasonably calculate the sterilization time. The sterilization time includes: ① penetration time, which is calculated from the time when the pot reaches the sterilization

temperature, and the time when the most difficult part in the pot reaches this temperature; ② maintenance time, that is, the time required to kill microorganisms, generally

It is expressed by the time required to kill Bacillus stearothermophilus spores; ③safety time, the time required to increase the sterilization guarantee. Generally, it is half of the

heat death time, and its length depends on the disinfection items. Sterilization of thermally conductive metal equipment does not require a safe time. During the sterilization

time, pay attention to the pressure gauge, and adjust the intake air volume to maintain the pressure at the sterilization time until the sterilization time. During the sterilization

process, if the pressure and temperature drop, the temperature should be increased and the time should be restarted.

6. After sterilization. After the sterilized items are required to be dried, check that the indicator meets the sterilization requirements and the pot can be released. When taking sterile items,

strict aseptic operation is required. When opening the items, cover the lid first, and close the ventilation holes of the storage tank. At the same time, they should be classified and placed,

and issued and taken in order. Exceed the validity period, generally not more than seven days in hot and humid seasons.

7. Prevent superheated steam. Although the temperature of superheated steam is high, like air, it cannot condense into water and release latent heat when it encounters sterilized items,

so it is not good for sterilization. The way to prevent overheating is to use an external source steam extinguisher, do not make the temperature of the interlayer higher than the temperature

of the sterilization chamber, and the two should be close. Heat to the required temperature, and then reduce the pressure.

8. Pay attention to safety. Before each sterilization, it should be checked whether the sterilizer is in good working condition, especially whether the safety valve is in good condition.

The decompression after disinfection should not be too violent or too fast. The pot door can only be opened when the pressure gauge returns to the “0” position. If there is a bottled

solution in the sterilizer and the pot is opened suddenly, the glass will easily burst when it encounters cold air. It must be noted that if the door of the pot is suddenly opened too large,

a large amount of cold air will enter, which will easily condense the steam around the cloth into water spots. Blocking the holes of the wrapping cloth prevents the steam from being

discharged from the wrapping cloth and makes the items wet.
